WikiPlatform is launching soon! We’re working hard behind the scenes.
Privacy Policy
Introduction
WikiPlatform (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from users of our website and services (“you”), how we use and share that information, and the choices you have regarding your data. By using WikiPlatform, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide: When you create an account or profile on WikiPlatform, we collect the personal information you provide to us. This includes details such as your name, email address, telephone number, account login credentials, and any profile information you choose to share (for example, your contact details, biography, social media links, location, and other descriptive information about you or your organization). Providing additional profile information is optional, and you can decide how much to include. Please be mindful that any information you post on your public profile will be visible to others.
Sensitive Personal Data: We do not require you to post sensitive personal information (such as health details, financial information, or government ID numbers) on your profile. In fact, we ask that you do not include any sensitive data in your profile. If you choose to share sensitive information on public areas of WikiPlatform, you do so at your own risk – we cannot be responsible for any personal data you publicly disclose.
Information Collected Automatically: Like many websites, we also collect certain information automatically when you use WikiPlatform. Our servers log technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages you access on the site. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience and gather usage statistics. For example, we use Google Analytics, a popular web analytics service by Google, which uses cookies to help analyze how users use the site. Google Analytics may record information like the number of visitors to the site, the pages or features they use, and the duration of visits. This usage data is generally collected in aggregate form and does not directly identify individual users. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but note that disabling cookies may affect certain site features (such as staying logged in).
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for purposes consistent with operating and improving WikiPlatform’s services. In particular, we use your personal information to:
- Provide and Personalize the Service: We use your registration and profile information to create your account and profile pages, allowing you to connect with others or be discovered on the platform. The content you post (such as profile details or other submissions) will be displayed on the site as you intend. We may also personalize your experience by remembering your preferences and showing content relevant to you.
- Communicate with You: We may use your contact information (e.g. email address) to send important account-related messages, such as account verification, password resets, confirmations, or updates about our terms or policies. Additionally, if you have opted in, we will send you newsletters or promotional emails about new features, news, or offerings from WikiPlatform. (See Email Communications below for more information on marketing emails and how to opt out.)
- Improve and Analyze the Service: The information about how users navigate and use our site helps us improve our platform. We analyze aggregate usage data (for example, overall site traffic, popular pages, and click patterns) to understand what is working well and what could be improved. This helps us troubleshoot issues, optimize user experience, and develop new features. For instance, understanding the typical duration of visits or the number of pages viewed helps us gauge engagement and make informed decisions on enhancing WikiPlatform. We may also use analytics to test user interface changes or measure the effectiveness of our communications.
- Ensure Security and Prevent Misuse: We may process personal data as needed to maintain the security of our website and users. This includes monitoring for fraudulent or suspicious activity and enforcing our Terms of Service. Information like IP addresses and log data can be used to detect and prevent attacks, spam, or other abuse of our platform.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
WikiPlatform uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate our website and to collect analytics data. Cookies are small text files placed on your device that enable site features and help us understand how you use the site. For example, we use cookies to keep you logged in during your session and to remember your preferences (such as language or other settings). We also utilize cookies for analytics purposes. As noted, WikiPlatform uses Google Analytics to gather information about user interactions with the site. Google Analytics sets cookies that track things like how you arrived at our site, how you navigate between pages, and your browsing duration. This information does not include your name or contact details, but it may include identifiers like your IP address which Google Analytics uses to determine general location and to distinguish unique users. We use the insights from these tools to improve site content and performance.
Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you have the option to change your browser settings to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent. Please note that if you disable or delete cookies, some features of WikiPlatform might not function properly (for example, you may need to re-login or your preferences may not be remembered). For more details on how we use cookies and how you can manage them, you can refer to our Cookie Policy (if available) or contact us with any questions.
Email Communications
By creating an account on WikiPlatform or subscribing to our mailing list, you consent to receive certain communications from us. We may send you marketing emails or newsletters to inform you about new updates, features, events, or promotions related to WikiPlatform. These emails are intended to keep you informed and enhance your experience on our platform. However, we respect your choices regarding email communication. If at any time you prefer not to receive marketing or promotional emails, you can opt out easily. Every marketing email we send includes an “unsubscribe” link at the bottom – simply click that link to stop receiving further emails of that type. Once you unsubscribe, we will remove you from the mailing list for that type of communication. You may also manage your email subscription preferences through your account settings, if such options are available, or by contacting us directly to request removal from our marketing list. Please note that even if you opt out of marketing messages, we may still send you transactional or account-related emails (for example, password reset emails or important notices about your account or changes to our services), as these are not promotional in nature.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
We value your privacy and handle your personal information with care. We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. There are, however, certain circumstances in which we may share your information with third parties, as outlined below:
- Service Providers: We may share your information with trusted third-party companies that provide services to us or perform functions on our behalf. This includes, for example, website hosting providers, cloud storage services, email delivery services (for sending newsletters or account emails), analytics partners (such as Google Analytics), or customer support and communication tools. These service providers are given access only to the information necessary for them to carry out their specific tasks for us, and they are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify. We take steps to ensure that any third-party agents or service providers who handle personal data on our behalf maintain strict confidentiality and security standards.
- Legal Requirements and Protection: We may disclose your information if we are required to do so by law or legal process, for example in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request. Additionally, we may share information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or property, enforce our Terms of Service, or protect the safety of our users or the public. For instance, if someone is suspected of fraud or misuse of the platform, we might share data with law enforcement or investigators as appropriate.
- Business Transfers: If WikiPlatform is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity or successor as part of that transaction. If such a change in ownership occurs, we will ensure that the new owner is bound by terms similar to this Privacy Policy with respect to your personal information, and we will provide notice on the website or via email before any personal data is transferred or becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Aside from the situations above, the personal information you provide to WikiPlatform will not be intentionally disclosed to other individuals or organizations without your consent. Public content that you post on the platform (such as information on a public profile or in public forums/comments, if those exist on WikiPlatform) is, by its nature, visible to others, and any information included in those public postings can be viewed and used by anyone who accesses them. Always exercise discretion when sharing information in public areas of the site.
Data Retention
We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or as required by law. In practice, this means we keep your profile and account information while your account is active. If you decide to deactivate or delete your account, or if you request that we delete your personal data, we will take steps to remove your personal information from our active databases. Generally, profile information and content that you have posted will no longer be visible to others once your account is deactivated or deleted.
However, please note that deleted data may not be immediately removed from all our systems. We maintain routine backups of our system for reliability and disaster recovery purposes, and personal data may remain in backup storage for a period of time even after you delete it from the live site. These backups are stored securely and are only accessed if needed for system recovery or for other IT integrity reasons. We do not use backup data for any active purpose other than maintaining the integrity of the platform. In addition, we may retain certain information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. For example, we might retain minimal information to prove that we honored a deletion request, or keep financial transaction records if any payments were involved (for accounting/tax purposes), or retain communications if needed to establish or defend legal claims.
In summary, when you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will make reasonable efforts to remove your personal data from active use and our systems, and we will fully delete or anonymize the data when it is no longer needed. Residual copies might persist temporarily in our archives or backups, but will be purged in accordance with our data retention policies and applicable laws.
Your Rights and Choices
You have certain rights and choices regarding your personal information and how it is used. We strive to provide you with access to your data and easy ways to update or delete it:
- Access and Updating: You can access and review the personal information you have provided by logging into your WikiPlatform account. In your account settings or profile page, you should be able to edit or update your profile information at any time to ensure it is accurate and current. For instance, you can update details like your contact information or profile description if they change. You may also be able to change your communication preferences (such as opting in or out of newsletters) through these settings.
- Account Deactivation and Deletion: If you no longer wish to use WikiPlatform, you can deactivate or delete your account. WikiPlatform may offer a self-service option to deactivate/delete your profile via your account settings. Where self-service deletion is not available or if you prefer assistance, you can contact us to request deletion of your account. Upon such request, we will deactivate or remove personal data associated with your account, as described in the Data Retention section. Keep in mind that while deactivation/removal will take effect for active user access, certain data may remain in backups for a period of time. Also, information that was already public (such as content you posted to public areas) might remain available in page caches or archives beyond our control.
- Rights Under Applicable Laws: Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional legal rights over your personal data. For example, if you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, you typically have the right to request access to the information we hold about you, the right to request correction or deletion of your data, and the right to object or restrict certain processing of your data. You might also have the right to data portability (to obtain a copy of your data in a common format) or the right not to be subject to certain automated decisions. WikiPlatform will honor any such rights as applicable. To exercise these rights, you can contact us with your specific request. We may ask you to verify your identity for security purposes before fulfilling certain requests. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.
- Withdrawing Consent: If we rely on your consent to process certain personal data (for example, consent to receive marketing emails), you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails as described in the Email Communications section, or adjust your settings if applicable. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing conducted prior to the withdrawal, and it may not affect processing that is allowed under other legal bases.
- Do Not Track: Some web browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) feature that lets you signal to websites that you do not want to be tracked across sites. Currently, WikiPlatform does not respond to DNT signals. However, you can typically disable certain tracking (like analytics cookies) as discussed in the Cookies section of this policy.
If you have any questions about your rights or how to exercise them, please contact us using the information in the Contact Us section. We are committed to helping you exercise control over your personal data.
Data Security
We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the security of your personal information. WikiPlatform has implemented a variety of technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to help protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, loss, or disclosure. These measures include industry-standard practices such as secure server environments, encryption of data transmissions (e.g., using HTTPS for our website), and restricting access to personal data to only those employees or contractors who need it to operate the service. We also review our information collection and storage practices periodically to improve security, and we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data.
However, please understand that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we are committed to protecting your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You should also take care with how you handle and disclose your personal information and login credentials. If you believe that the security of your account or data has been compromised, please contact us immediately so we can assist.
Children’s Privacy
WikiPlatform is not directed to individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13 years old, please do not use our site or submit any personal information about yourself. In the event that we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child under 13 has created an account or provided us with personal data, please let us know, and we will delete the child’s information promptly. (For residents of certain jurisdictions where the minimum applicable age may be higher, such as 16 in parts of the EU, we will abide by those age limits as required by law.)
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update or revise this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make changes, we will post the updated Privacy Policy on this page and update the “Last Updated” date at the top or bottom of the policy. The revised policy will be effective when posted. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information. Your continued use of WikiPlatform after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
